"This is ridiculous."
A snort was his only answer, but Byakuya Togami really wasn't expecting anything less from the motorcycle gang leader. The two of them were currently stuck in an incredibly awkward position, one that was causing the gang leader to go red.
Really, if Togami didn't know better, he'd say the gang leader was embarrassed.
"This fucking sucks," Mondo finally remarked, shooting a glare over his shoulder at the blonde girl who was flashing him a thumbs up. "Alice, I swear to fucking god..." He trailed off, letting the unfinished threat hang there.
Togami reached up to adjust his glasses, studying the two of them carefully. He was aware that "Alice White" was on good terms with Ishimaru and Mondo, but the fact that she had managed to get the gang leader in this position to begin with was not lost on him. Unfortunately, she had clearly decided to do it at his expense. Still, the heir to the Togami conglomerate was not flushed or even showing any outward signs of irritation. He had a carefully composed mask of indifference on, and it was one he intended to keep on regardless of how stupid the situation was.
A girlish giggle from behind him drew his attention away from the still-grinning Alice and the still-flustered Mondo. Togami turned just enough to see Celes, who had a hand placed daintily over her mouth. "What an awkward situation," She remarked. "Especially for two boys who loathe each other as much as you do."
Togami almost made a rude remark, but Mondo beat him to it. "Fuck off," The blush was definitely reaching his ears now. "It's just a stupid fucking tradition anyway, no reason to bother with it."
"That's against the rules, kyoudai!"
Mondo groaned and turned to the hall monitor, who was jabbing a finger in their direction. He looked like he was trying not to break down laughing.
"This is just payback for when you and Naegi were--"
"Nonsense!" Ishimaru interrupted his brother. "Traditions are very important, kyoudai! You shouldn't give up on them just because you don't like them!"
Mondo groaned and ran a hand down his face. Togami didn't say anything, for once at a loss for a witty comeback to possibly piss Ishimaru off. He glanced upward, eyes narrowing at the offending object that was causing them so much trouble.
A sprig of mistletoe was taped to the ceiling. Yes, taped. Togami suspected that this was Hagakure's doing. The fortune teller had been suspiciously absent all night.
"Fuck this shit," Mondo grunted and turned to leave. He was stopped by both Ishimaru and Alice, the pair holding their hands out and begging him to play along.
"It's just one kiss!" Alice said with a grin, pushing on Mondo's shoulder to get him to turn around. "It won't hurt!"
"It'll hurt my fucking pride," The gang leader grumbled. "I'm not gonna do it."
"Togami-kun, you could kiss kyoudai!"
"I ain't letting him kiss me either!" Mondo's voice rose and the flush deepened. Togami hadn't thought that was possible.
"You won't have to worry about that," He finally remarked, expression dipping into disgust. "I have better things to do than waste my time around you."
A soft sound behind him made him turn to find Kirigiri. She was trying not to smile, but Togami knew her well enough by now to know that her expression was covering it up. His eyes narrowed.
"It wouldn't hurt," Kirigiri remarked. "Besides, it would be a shame if your presents went missing. A scrooge shouldn't have any part in a party like this, correct?"
Togami could feel his right eye twitch. It wasn't because he wanted the presents that badly (as if any of them would know what to get him?), but rather because he was sick of being surrounded by all this holiday cheer. He shot another glare up at the mistletoe, like this was somehow or other all its fault.
Mondo was mumbling something obscene under his breath but Togami didn't bother to pay attention to it. He was not one to break to peer pressure and if his classmates insisted on waiting around for one of them to kiss the other, they would have another thing coming. Most likely they would grow bored with waiting and would wander off to open presents or something. It was just a matter of time before they could make their escape with their dignity intact. It would all work out, he was certain of that.
That was when Mondo stepped forward. Togami's instinct was to step backwards and his fight-or-flight response kicked in. Mondo might have gotten a bit better at controlling his anger here in Johto, but that didn't mean that the brute would control it now. Togami had no reason to think that Mondo would hurt him, but he had even less reason to think that the biker would leave him alone when he was approaching like that.
Mondo seized the front of Togami's coat and dragged him forward, causing the heir to stumble a bit. He pulled himself upright just in time to get a good look at Mondo's face (still furiously blushing and looking more than a little sheepish), but that didn't last long.
The biker gang leader leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek. Togami was floored.
Mondo let go as quickly as he had grabbed the heir, backing away and muttering something Togami was fairly certain would make even the most hardened of sailors blush. Speaking of blushing, Mondo was so red he was practically matching the scarf draped around his neck (it was most likely Ishimaru's, was Togami's inane thought). He shoved his way through Alice and Ishimaru, both of whom were attempting to congratulate him and he disappeared in the direction of the basement.
Togami simply stood there dumbfounded.
"That wasn't that bad, was it?" Kirigiri asked as she moved to stand beside him. She was positively smirking now.
The heir grit his teeth but didn't say anything, instead turning to the kitchen where he would hopefully have a bit of peace from the stupid antics of his classmates.
Unfortunately, he was dead wrong.
"Hey, how much do you think they'll give me for keeping this picture to myself?" Leon asked with a grin. He was holding a camera and examining the picture he'd just taken. Naegi was looking mortified next to him.
"You didn't need to take a picture, Kuwata-kun...!" Naegi protested. "Perhaps you should delete it."
"No way, man! Do you even know how mad they're gonna be when they see this? It's gonna be hilarious!" Leon clapped a hand to Naegi's back and sauntered off, most likely to find Mondo and torture him first.
Togami sighed. And people wondered why he hated this season.
